The goal of Swedish massage is Relaxation
Adding Hot stones to the mix it helps to enhance this relaxation with heat. The Stones are applied gently to help soothe the muscles after being massaged. The heated stones have a feel of melting heat upon the skin. ( Similar to the feel of a melting ice cube on the skin yet with heat. )

Swedish massage is applied in a way that helps to slow down and calm the energy of the body. This is achieved by not applying any jarring movements and allows the client to rest. Slow gliding techniques are applied with the palm, forearm and knuckles at a light medium or deep pressure. Light compressions and tappotement is applied. For the feet a light foot reflexology pattern is applied along with general pressure. This can also include scalp massage or face massage upon request yet is not applied unless requested. To enhance the calming affect calming music is played and aromatherapy choices are offered such as: Lavender, Eucalyptus, Sweet Orange, Grapefruit, Peppermint or Rosemary. Tea Tree. 

Alternating Swedish massage sessions with deep tissue sessions work is great for those whose muscles are tight due to tension. Also if ones body is stuck in the fight or flight mode.
In the Fight or flight mode, the body is jumpy when touched or it is hard to move a part of the body without the client readily assisting. These reactions are automatic, sometimes subtle and other times very pronounced. It may even be mentally irritating to have a relaxing massage. Being able to make it past this irritation and through deep breathing mixed with swedish massage will help to calm the body and switch out of the I got to keep going every minute of the day mode. When the body is stuck in this mode the body will tense up and actually be stuck in a tension state. Leading to severe stiffness of movements. Low digestive movement and affects ability to sleep well. 


please see contraindications to massage on the front page of this website. As areas such as Varicose veins, skin conditions, areas of swelling will be avoided. Not good for thinning skin such as in those over 70. Clients may need a therapist specialized in their conditions. Such as those with cancer an oncology massage therapist. Elderly with several conditions would need a geriatric massage therapist ( even in applying light massage techniques).If Pregnant would need a therapist trained in prenatal massage. Etc. If veins are prominent, hot stones are not recommended to apply on them nor if the skin is thin could cause ripping, numbness and nerve damaged areas are not recommended to have hot stones applied due to not feeling if the heat is too hot and could be susceptible to burns.
